This is my first CPAP machine so I have nothing else to compare it to. I have used this Resmed Airsense 10 Auto only for several weeks so consider this review as some of my first impressions it. Perhaps, I will write another review a year later. I purchased this machine from Help Medical, as they had the best price on the internet. Not sure how they were able to sell this machine for about $200 cheaper than most other places on the internet. The machine arrived as new as expected. It came in a nice compartmentalized soft case. The installation of the humidifier tank was straightforward. The air filter was already installed. The data card had to be installed, as I almost missed it. Surprisingly, there were only 3 or 4 simple options on the menu to program from the control panel, as I was expecting to tinker with a lot more settings. Needless to say, it was a simple device to setup.
The hose inlet port is recessed on the backside at the top. It has a heated socket in the port for a heated hose connection. The power button is at the top right in the middle of the device, which is pretty easy to reach in the dark to turn it off in the morning. I tried to use to the auto on and off function as described but it did not appear to work, perhaps I did not do it right, but I decided to manually turn it on and off anyway from the get-go, as it is effortless for me to push the power button on at night and off in the morning. I remember on the first night, I could not sleep, perhaps due to mask bothering me, I was able to hear a soft whining sound from the machine, but it has been dead silent ever since.
The machine captures my sleep data every night but it cannot display the data on the control panel for some reason, as it shows a myAir message. I created a myAir account (free) on Resmed’s website, and downloaded the myAir app on my Android phone, so now I can view all my sleep data in this app. I do not know how this machine is able to upload my data, as it does not use my home Wi-Fi at all but my data is magically uploaded to myAir app every morning.
The machine has a humidifier built-in but I have not been using it, as the dry air did not bother me at all. I have been leaving the water tank empty but I think it has to plug in in order for the machine to function even with the humidifier turned off. The humidifier tank has a port that connects directly to the air port of the machine so I think that is the reason why the tank has to plug in to work, as this air port would be exposed otherwise. I just learned that there is an optional side cover that can be used in place of the humidifier tank to make the machine more compact if the humidifier is not being used, as the tank sticks out of the machine about 2”. I have ordered this side cover and will replace the tank with it soon.
I remember for the first week when I was using a full mask with this machine, I was able to feel the cool air rushing in at every beginning, which had a very soothing effect that I liked. Perhaps, it was due to the cold weather, now that the weather is warming up, I could not seem to feel that same cool air effect anymore, but I also switched to a nasal pillow mask since then so it might have something to do with it. Obviously, I am a completely opposite to those who like to feel the warmer air with a heated hose, as I like my machine blowing cool air instead. I will probably write a separate review for masks, as I have tried many of them in just a few weeks.
I think that is about all I have to say about this machine for now. I hope I did not miss anything important that might be helpful for others. FYI, I bought this machine on my own with a prescription from a MD, as my health insurance is a high deductible version and I did not go through a sleep study to approve it.
Last I checked, Help Medical still has the best price on this machine so buy it here to save some money for something else.
