What You Should Know About the New AirSense 11

The ResMed AirSense series has long been one of the leading options for CPAP treatment. In 2021, the brand introduced the latest iteration of this device: the AirSense 11.

Available in three different models, the ResMed AirSense 11 serves as a great update for your sleep apnea therapy. Here’s a closer look at how this device can make a difference for your treatment.

3 Different Models

AirSense 11

The AirSense 11 AutoSet is an auto-adjusting device. It monitors each breath you take and changes the air pressure accordingly based on your specific needs. The AutoSet model also includes the gender-specific therapy mode “For Her,” previously made available in the “For Her” models of the AirSense 10.

The AirSense 11 CPAP and Elite devices are both fixed-pressure models. They deliver a steady flow of pressure throughout the night. The pressure settings are put in place by your doctor, based on the results of your sleep study.

As its name implies, the Elite is a higher-end model with an array of digital tech aimed at helping users start, acclimate, and adhere to a new CPAP therapy program.

This includes the “Care Check-In” feature, which provides coaching and troubleshooting to help users during their first month of using the device, while also asking check-in questions to guide this advice. This feature can link with AirView, which allows patients to look at their nightly therapy data, and even remotely troubleshoot or change device settings. Wireless connectivity further enhances the Elite model, allowing for more seamless feature updates and maintenance when a wi-fi connection is available.

The usefulness of the AirView data is further enhanced by the Elite model’s advanced event detection, which can differentiate between central sleep apnea, Cheyne-Stokes respiration, and other breathing issues to provide a deeper understanding of the issues affecting your sleep.

The Elite model also offers a few additional quality of life features, such as a built-in light sensor that automatically adjusts screen brightness based on the room’s light levels, and an “Easy-Breathe motor” for quieter operation. Available SmartStart and SmartStop features will automatically begin or stop therapy when you breathe into or remove your face mask.

The myAir App

The myAir app can also link with your device to help you track the progress of your sleep apnea therapy. The app provides an easy to understand daily sleep score based on factors such as mask seal, how many hours you used the CPAP device, and the number of apnea episodes you experienced per hour.

Based on this data, the myAir app will provide personalized coaching and information to help you make further improvements to your sleep apnea therapy.

User-Friendly Features

AirSense 11

The AirSense 11 features an integrated heated humidifier, which can improve the comfort of your therapy and reduce the likelihood of common side effects such as dry mouth or sore throat. The humidifier’s Climate Control feature allows for both manual and automatic adjustments so you can achieve the optimum level of comfort.

The AirSense 11 line continues the use of many other user-friendly features that have helped make sleep apnea therapy more comfortable for AirSense users over the years.

First is AutoRamp, which allows the device to initially deliver air at a lower pressure setting. The more comfortable air setting makes it easier to fall asleep. The air then gradually increases to the prescribed level. In the Elite model, this feature is paired with sleep onset detection, which can detect when you have fallen asleep based on your breathing patterns. Once sleep is detected, the device increases to the prescribed air pressure.

AirSense 11 devices also include expiratory pressure relief (EPR). Even on fixed-pressure devices, this feature slightly reduces pressure during exhalation to make breathing more comfortable.

With improved features and design, the AirSense 11 is the most user-friendly version of the best-selling device yet.
